Small changes make a big difference

Petra, 39, was one of the first participants in a Swedish clinical trial on Macrolane™. She lives with her partner and two children. In what follows, Petra reflects on why she wanted to try Macrolane, and its results.

"I’ve never had particularly large breasts, and after breast-feeding two children, I was almost completely flat-chested. Because I have a fairly childlike look, with a slender body and petite facial features, sometimes I didn’t feel very feminine.
A bigger bust makes you look more mature, and I could never find a bra that really suited me.

I had a chat with one of my colleagues and told her that I’d like fuller breasts, but remember telling her how I was against experimenting with my body, and that I didn’t want to go through surgery. Just a few days later, I saw Q-Med’s newspaper ad for participants in a trial on non-surgical breast augmentation. I responded with a long letter, telling them how I felt, that I didn’t want huge boobs, but wanted to restore volume. My expectations certainly weren’t sky-high, but I really wanted to try this for myself, and felt secure because Macrolane contains a substance that occurs naturally in the body.

The results and how it felt

After the treatment I noticed a big difference – up from an A cup to a B, with breasts that felt rounder and more ample. It was like putting on weight on your bottom, but this time, it was my bust that was bigger – and they really felt like my own breasts. I felt more feminine and my self-esteem improved.

Now I could wear a t-shirt without constantly adjusting my bra, or a top without a bra underneath, something I hadn’t been able to do for years. Wearing a bikini that wasn’t under-wired at the pool was fantastic – it was just bliss to feel like a woman rather than a young girl.

My partner, who has always loved me for who I am, thought the results were beautiful. And although I did the treatment for my own sake, you always want to look good for your partner. The friends I told thought it looked like I’d put on weight on my bust, but not elsewhere. 'I’d love that,' is what two of them said. One of them has uneven breasts, and being able to put this right naturally must feel great.

The treatment

I wasn’t nervous at all when I went to the clinic because I’d already made my mind up. When I got there, I had a chat with the nurse, called Birgitta, and then the surgeon, Per Hedén, who explained the trial, and how the treatment would proceed.

The actual treatment didn’t take more than 10 to 15 minutes. Then I lay there for an hour before taking the bus home. I experienced some initial soreness, which lasted a few days. But then it cleared up and I was so delighted.

While everyone’s different, Macrolane suited me well because it’s non-invasive, and I wouldn’t think twice before doing it again. I’m not interested in implants – being able to attain beauty is like a dream come true for me."
